we're tying to stop one"

This organisation is inspired by the example of the last great scientist and philosopher of the classical age, who's life shines out today as an example of moral and intellectual excellence, and who's death reminds us that the foundations of western civilisation are often under threat by religious ignorance and political corruption.

We are principally concerned with those ideologies who have a vested interest in attacking science, or intellectualism, such as Creationism/Intelligent Design, or those political interests who turn on scientists who hold to "inconvenient" theories such as global warming.

We aim to collect in common cause all those who wish to challenge in debate, promote through various media, and educate as many as possible to the dangers of anti-intellectual thinking or unreason.

This is an inclusive society, beliefs, political persuasion, philosophy, these are not important, all that is needed as the desire to protect and explain the importance of the scientific method, logic, and help to prevent a second Dark Age, and even take part in a possible New Enlightenment.

The ideals of Hypatia herself, of moral dedication, philosophy, mathematics and science, as well as Library of Alexandria, and its member's ceaseless thirst for knowledge for its own sake, provide no better example for the spiritual or rational truth seeker.

We should proudly declare ourselves to be Hypatians, not just critical thinkers, rationalists, or empiricists, but passionate and determined front line defenders of all Western culture's virtues. Democracy, diplomacy, secular government regardless of religious composition, equality for all, civil and human rights, as well as freedom in all its forms, not to mention the greatest achievement so far, the scientific method, the path to truth, and understanding of all reality.
